ICC was established by psychiatrist Dr Noboru Hozumi in 1989 as an independent counseling facility offering individual, couple, family counseling, and ancillary services. Today there are approximately 40 counselors registered with ICC, trained and qualified in counseling psychology in Japan, the United Sates, or their respective countries.

-
Through one to one personal counseling we help you find your way through whatever problem is causing concern. Symptoms which can be successfully addressed include lethargy, depression, nervousness, anxiety, panic and trauma.

-
The situations that lead a couple to choose counseling are as various as each couple. ICC facilitates an improvement in communication so that the couple may move forward together into a more satisfying relationship.

-
The family is our first and most important school in life, be it a traditional family, a blended one, single parent or other. ICC family therapy provides the sensitive and caring support necessary to all members for family healing and growth to occur.

-
ICC offers a variety of psychological tests. The Rorschach test and Sentence Completion Test (SCT) are usually taken as part of a counseling regime. The Ecogram (TEG) may be taken once on its own apart from counseling.

-
ICC supervision is intended for practicing counselors wishing to hone their skills. Training counseling provides counseling psychology students and trainee counselors the opportunity to experience being a client. Please enquire for further details.

- 1.How often do I have counseling?
-
Each person's needs differ. It may be that weekly, bi-weekly or monthly is best. Your counselor can help you judge the right frequency for you.
- 2.How long does counseling take?
-
It depends on the personal aims and situation. There is no set time-frame.
- 3.Is it possible to change from one mode of counseling to another? E.g. individual to couple, or vice-versa.
-
Yes. For consolidation it can be useful to regularly have one mode of counseling backed-up with an occasional alternate session.
- 4.I am currently seeing a Doctor for treatment. Am I able to undergo counseling?
-
Please check with your Doctor before making an appointment here.
- 5.I want to keep my counseling secret from my family.
-
Counselors are under the same confidentiality obligation as doctors and lawyers. Our obligation is lifted where self-harm or harm to others is feared, or if ordered to disclose by a court. In all other cases we are obliged to respect the client's wishes.
- 6.I live far away so I am not able to attend in person. Can I receive telephone or email counseling?
-
We do not offer telephone or email counseling. If you make enquiries to your prefectural chapter of clinical psychologists they may be able to provide information on local practioners.
- 7.Am I able to use Japanese National Health Insurance?
-
As this is not a medical treatment facility there is no coverage by the Japanese National Health Insurance.
- 8.Can I pay using insurance?
-
Payment for each session is required in cash following the end of the session. An invoice in support of insurance claims can be made out. It is our experience that usually reimbursements are granted by private foreign insurance companies up to the policy limit.
- 9.What is the cancellation policy?
-
Appointment cancellations can be accepted up until 20PM Monday to Thursday and 18PM on Friday & Saturday, one working day before the scheduled appointment.
For cancellations received after that point payment of the full fee is required. The payment can be made at the next session.
